A Digital Event - Not just t-shirts! Personalized Pillow Cases for Kids!
Your store will need a digital camera, scanner and work space on your computer to edit and format photos for printing on heat transfer paper. Many of the qualities of the heat transfer papers only require an iron to transfer the photos.
This is a perfect pajama party project or an activity for kids to do while their parent is at a crop! Have the kids bring along photos and a pillowcase. Or take digital snapshots at the party or event, let them choose the best shots and create a party keepsake.
Materials
- White pillowcase
- Inkjet heat transfer paper
- Iron
- Photos
- Graphics program that allows inserting of photos
- Inkjet printer
TIP:
Digital cameras offer us fun ways for children to turn this into a fun event. Suggested photos:
- Ask the children to “pile” up – on the floor and take a photo
- With a flashlight and child holding under-chin before a mirror with the lights off, take a photo! The child can make a series of grins and grimaces, and watch the “monster look”.
- Take individual photos of each child – head shot, and then remainder of body. Let each child exchange top and bottom of body with each other!
- Take a serious shot of each child, and also in groups with arms wrapped.
Instructions:
- Open an 8-1/2" x 11" page in your design graphic program.
- Scan in your photos or import into your program from a digital camera or CD-Rom.
- Resize the photo (and edit if you wish).
- Estimate the number of photos you need to cover the pillowcase, back and front, based on the size you choose.
- Save the file.
- Print photos on inkjet heat transfer paper following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Arrange transfers on one side of the pillowcase. Leave space between pictures and iron on carefully. Go from left to right (or right to left), making sure you don’t accidentally touch transfers you just ironed on as you move from one to the other. Flip over and do the other side in the same way.
Note these same directions may also be applied to a t-shirt or other fabric.
